Ingredient #1:
Agave nectar is a delicious natural sweetener, milder than honey, made from the blue agave plant, a cactus that grows in the desert. This nectar is high in natural sugars that do not create a dramatic rise in blood glucose levels. While pure glucose has a glycemic index of 100 and white sugar a glycemic index of 68, honey only has a glycemic index of 55. Not to be out done, natural, raw agave from the blue agave plant has a glycemic index of 37. Food with glycemic indexes under 55 are considered low glycemic foods. In addition to the low glycemic nature of raw agave nectar, this delicious raw chocolate syrup also contains raw cacao powder. Raw cacao powder comes from the bean that eventually becomes chocolate. Unlike chocolate, however, these beans are never heated and they are still loaded with all their natural antioxidants. While the ORAC score on fresh blueberries is around 32 (per gram), this natural raw chocolate syrup boasts of a 245 ORAC score (per gram), proving it is loaded with natural antioxidants and surprisingly healthy!
